The Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) said it is focusing on revenue generation and tighter cost discipline in the second half of 2026 after delays in project implementation affected income generation during the first six months.
The development finance institution said projects already under implementation had yet to start generating repayments, making it necessary to speed up project execution and turn its pipeline into bankable transactions.
Management also plans to increase lending during the remainder of the year while broadening the bankโs funding sources.
IDBZ chief executive Willing Zvirevo said the bank would focus on improving revenue generation and diversifying its funding base.
โIn the second half of 2026, management will focus on improving revenue generation, accelerating works on projects under implementation, converting bankable projects into disbursements, lowering the cost of funding through diversification of the deposit book and strengthening asset-liability management,โ Zvirevo said in a statement accompanying the bankโs financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2026.
โPriority will also be given to scaling up project preparation, onboarding high-quality projects, growing the loan book through viable short-cycle transactions and sustaining cost containment measures.โ
IDBZ disbursed US$2,4 million to productive-sector and infrastructure projects during the period under review.
The bank approved US$17,7 million in new financing, including US$7,75 million for productive-sector projects involving businesses operating in tourism, agriculture, mining and infrastructure value chains.
A further US$9,9 million was approved for infrastructure projects, with housing receiving most of the funding.
โDisbursements are expected to pick up significantly in the second half of the year,โ Zvirevo said.
The bank raised US$7,9 million in resources during the first half and expects to increase fundraising activity as more projects become ready for financing.
โLooking ahead, priority will be given to building a more diverse pipeline of investment-ready projects to anchor the bankโs resource mobilisation efforts,โ he said.
Apart from lending, IDBZ continued to provide advisory services in support of national development programmes across its target sectors.
The bank carried out technical advisory and independent engineering work on strategic infrastructure projects, particularly in the energy sector, including hydropower developments.
It also provided advisory services for water and sanitation projects involving dams, water supply systems and irrigation infrastructure.
โThese interventions underscore the Bankโs commitment to supporting sustainable economic growth and enhancing the countryโs productive capacity,โ Zvirevo said.
IDBZ also received shareholder funds during the period, which strengthened its balance sheet and contributed to a 101 percent increase in total assets compared with the corresponding period last year.
The stronger capital position is expected to help the bank mobilise additional funding for projects and expand lending to productive sectors.
โThe bank will leverage this enhanced capital position to raise more resources for projects and to support its productive sector lending window, thus allowing it to gradually strengthen revenue generation,โ Zvirevo said.
