Kavango commissions 50-tonne gold plant in Zimbabwe, nears commercial production

Kavango Resources Plc (Kavango) has commenced commissioning of a 50 tons-per-day gold processing plant after successful installation at its Hillside gold project in Zimbabwe.
Hillside โ€“ 100 percent-owned by Kavango โ€“ is a high-grade gold exploration and production project in Zimbabwe’s Filabusi Greenstone Belt.
The southern Africa-focused miner said the successful plat installation marks the transition from construction into commissioning and live processing.
โ€œProcessing commenced on 1 July 2026, with all feed material sourced from Kavango’s own Hillside operations, including stockpiled and freshly milled gold-bearing sand,โ€ Kavango said.
The group achieved average capacity utilisation of 69 percent during the period 18-28 July 2026, with material now being processed through the crushing, milling, gravity concentration and carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit.
โ€œThis proof-of-concept plant supports the advancement of Hillside towards commercial production, with Bill’s Luck underground hosting a JORC compliant Mineral Resource of 33,900 ounces of gold at 2.68g/t and metallurgical test work indicating expected operating recoveries of 90-93 percent said,โ€ Kavango said.
Donald McAlister, Kavango chairman, said: โ€œThe commencement of commissioning marks an important milestone for Kavango as we transition from construction to operational testing at Hillside.โ€
โ€œWe look forward to ramping up production at Hillside and further advancing our wider portfolio, including evaluating the strategic opportunities available at Nara,โ€ he said.
Hillside Project spans multiple prospects โ€“ Billโ€™s Luck, Nightshift, and Prospect 3 and  4 โ€“ targeting shear-hosted gold in a 650m x 150m area.
With a total JORC-compliant resource of 52,900 ounces, it is undergoing rapid development and a shift toward commercial mechanised mining.
