Zimbabwe’s tobacco earnings have reached US$860.64 million since the beginning of the 2026 marketing season, way below last year’s sales due to depressed international prices.
Last season, Zimbabwe’s tobacco growers delivered 353 million kg of the golden leaf, a 53 percent increase from 2024, which generated US$1.17 billion in revenue at an average price of US$3.32 per kg.
According to the Zimbabwe Tobacco Association, so far this season, a combined total of 344,256,554 kg has been sold at average US$2.50 per kg.
The auction system sold 27,514,008 kg at average US$1.90 per kg and contract 316,742,546 kg at average US$2.55 per kg.
“On this day in 2025, 321,407,880 kg sold were sold at average US$3.35 per kg,” the association said.
