Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) has invested US$2 million in the
refurbishment of Montclair Resort & Conference Hotel in Nyanga, a move
aimed at improving guest experience and strengthening tourism infrastructure in
Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands.
The refurbishment project started on 1 June and is expected
to be completed by July 31.
Hotel operations will continue throughout the renovation
period, with work being carried out in phases to minimise visitor disruptions.
According to RTG, the first phase covers 49 rooms in the
Northern Block and Western Block A, while the second phase will focus on 56
rooms in the Southern Block and Western Block B.
RTG acquired the hotel in 2025 and has since increased its
room capacity from 85 to 105 rooms through space optimisation measures,
including converting some suites into standard rooms and repurposing former
office space.
The renovation includes upgrades to guest rooms, public
areas and the restaurant. Planned improvements feature new ceilings, flooring,
bathrooms, furniture, electrical systems, plumbing and heating infrastructure.
Guests will also benefit from modern technology such as smart televisions, USB
charging ports and upgraded utility systems.
RTG group chief executive Tendai Madziwanyika said the
investment demonstrates the company’s confidence in the future of the Eastern
Highlands.
“The Eastern Highlands is one of Zimbabwe’s most
spectacular tourism assets and we believe it has immense potential to become
the country’s next major tourism destination alongside Victoria Falls,” he
said.
He added that the project goes beyond improving the hotel
itself.
“This investment is about more than upgrading a hotel.
It is about raising standards, driving destination competitiveness and creating
memorable experiences for our guests,” said Mr. Madziwanyika.
The refurbishment follows Montclair Resort & Conference
Hotel’s recent attainment of ISO 9001:2015 certification from the Standards
Association of Zimbabwe, making it the seventh RTG property to achieve the
internationally recognised quality management standard.
RTG said sustainability measures form a key part of the
project, including water-saving systems and energy-efficient room controls. The
hotel is also expanding its farm-to-table agriculture programme, producing
vegetables and herbs on-site to support its operations while reducing
environmental impact.
The company said the refurbishment forms part of its broader
strategy to modernise its hospitality portfolio and support the growth of
Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.
