The Zimbabwe government has begun construction of a new interchange in Harare, as the authorities move to upgrade and modernize the country’s roads infrastructure.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development is spearheading the project, with a tour of the site scheduled for 11 May 2026.
“A new interchange is coming,” the Transport ministry announced on X.
“Land clearing now underway on the construction of an interchange on Harare Drive and Airport Road. Join us for a hard hat tour and see the future of our country’s roads in action,” the Felix Mhona-led ministry said.
An interchange is a road junction that uses grade separation—bridges and ramps—to connect highways or major roads, allowing traffic to move between them without directly crossing, stopping, or encountering traffic signals.
It improves safety and traffic flow, with common types including diamond and cloverleaf designs.
The country – experiencing growing traffic volumes in recent years – recently completed construction of the Trabablas Interchange in Harare and is near-completing construction of the Mabvuku Interchange, also in the capital.
