Innscor tightens grip on Tanganda with board shakeup, new CEO appointment

Tanganda Tea Company Limited (Tanganda) has entered a new phase of strategic realignment, with sweeping board appointments and executive changes taking place following Innscor Africa Limited (Innscor)’s acquisition of a significant stake in the tea producer.
The developments come barely a month after Innscor, through its beverages unit Rutanhi, underwrote Tanganda’s US$8 million rights issue, a capital raise aimed at strengthening the company’s balance sheet and funding growth initiatives.
Rutanhi took up 54 percent of the shares not subscribed for by existing shareholders, translating to a 27 percent stake and effectively positioning Innscor as a key shareholder.
In a move widely seen as consolidation of its influence, Innscor has now seconded several executives to Tanganda’s board.
Among the notable appointments is Addington Chinake, who assumes the role of board chairman, alongside new non-executive directors – Julian Schonken and Calum Philp, all with strong ties to Innscor’s leadership structures.
At executive level, the changes are even more pronounced.
Christian Frederick Botha, a founder of Probottlers and a seasoned beverages executive within the Innscor stable, has been appointed chief executive of Tanganda with effect from March 30, 2026.
His appointment signals a strategic pivot, bringing in leadership with deep experience in large-scale production, distribution and value chain optimisation.
Analysts say the appointments reflect a possible deliberate effort to integrate Tanganda into Innscor’s vertically aligned operations, particularly in beverages and agriculture.
The board reshuffle also saw the resignation of Bruce Henson as a non-executive director, alongside other internal executive reassignments, further highlighting the scale of the transition underway.
Innscor has previously indicated that its investment in Tanganda is intended to “add considerable value” while supporting the long-term sustainability of one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic agricultural brands. – TML
